when things go wrong
sunday 12:15 Karen calls or was it cindy? or both? anyway it was the start of my "when things go wrong" couple of days. Karen/cindy call to inform me that my car (which karen had been borrowing since hers' is not running) that my car had been smashed as a result of a hit and run driver! they say the front drivers side is smashed in all the way back and against the front tire. it appears undriveable. cindy calls the police, the laramie policeman that responds proves to be an idiot. he informs cindy that the car was sideswiped from behind! when cindy informs him that this is impossible as it is the front end that is smashed BACK, he gets rude and says to her "how many car accidents have you investagated?" and then he says another ignorant thing" you should be thankful i am not giving you a citation for a parking hazard!" any normal person can see that the car was hit to the front and the impact pushed the cars' behind away from the curb at an odd angle. we are proven right (and the policeman proven an idiot) later on but that is toward the end of this saga. ken and I make the trip to laramie to see what we can do. thankfully ken is able to pull the twisted metal out away from the tire and we are amazed the car is driveable! although of course lacking the headlight on the smashed side. ken is able to drive the car home. i opt to stay with karen for the night. a good thing is that cindy had discoverd the accident right before she was to leave on a trip back east. so the nice girl that she is she let karen have her car for the week she would be gone. if she hadnt discovered the accident when she did she would have probably taken her keys with her on her trip as she was driving over to meet her ride. things went well that evening karen and i went out to eat and then had a good time watching movies. during the evening I called my work place to see if i was scheduled to work monday so i would know if i had to leave very early the next morning in order to get back home and to work on time. the evening desk lady said yes i was scheduled to work but as there was only 6 rooms and 4 others scheduled i could have the day off if i wanted. i said are you sure? yes she was sure and would leave a note for the morning person. wonderful!! anyway on with my story: as i said early we believed it was a hit and run. at 7 am monday morning i get a call from the laramie police saying "hey we just realized that accident was reported saturday night around 11 pm by the dad of the boy who slid across the road and ran HEAD FIRST * into your parked car." so this was a good turn of events! I was feeling much better knowing that yes there are still some honest people in the world! and he has insurance! hooray! but i cant help but wonder about the bungling police department that not only never bothered to inform us of the accident. but after that first policeman couldnt even see the obvious. karen had called back to get another one hopefully who knew something, and two officers responded and looked things over, and then when ken and i got there we too had talked to yet another officer so 4 officers plus the one that took the initial report that was made by the people that hit our car. how is it that these accident reports were not connected by them? they still told us it was a hit and run. weird! anyway, i am thankful to the father who did the right thing. ok now on with the 2 other things "that didnt go right" in the morning i decided to follow karen to the gas station as cindy had said her car was empty. karen forgot that cindy said to not roll down the window as just the day before it broke and she had to have some guys physically pull it up and wasnt sure if it would ever work again. well yes! karen forgot and rolled it down! it was soo very cold and snowing neither one of us had gloves and i know my hands were so cold that they hurt. a nice man came over to try and help us pull up the window but to no avail. karen had to drive with the window down to her work. at her work we put a garbage bag over the window just to keep out the snow. she had to go in to work then so i went home. when i got home i had several calls on my answer machine from my work saying "Janis you are scheduled to work today! are you coming in!?" Janis where are you?!" it seems that nice night lady that said she would leave a note? yep you guessed it she did not leave any note and i was in trouble!

When it rains it pours, doesn't it? I remember when dad's brown car and my Buick Skylark were both totalled within a week or two of each other, at the same time Karen was in the hospital for her 1st brain tumor. At the time it is so horrible, but later on you can look back and see that somehow things worked out okay.
I am SO glad that someone came forward about the accident. That really does help your faith in others. I was so mad when I first heard about the accident when we still thought it was a hit and run. I still get steamed up though when I think about that first cop who was so obviously inept.
My goodness, that is a string of bad luck =)
when we had a broken window, we had somebody make it so that the window was disconnected from the window lever, so the window would stay up all the time until we could get it fixed. Also, i know auto stores sell a thick see through plastic that can double as a window until it's able to get fixed. =)
Boy...when Murphy decides to use his law he just has a hayday doesn't he? I hope everything went ok with work. That really stinks! I feel your pain though. That's happened to me before...especially with trading shifts. Well, I'll talk to you later mommy!
Your future Son-in-law,
ZaCH
P.S. I worked on our guest list today and I was wondering if Karen ever gave you our password and username so you could see it too? I know that Karen doesn't have most of her addresses. Bye!
hi momma! I love you!
