I heard this loud boom at 7am awakening me. I didnt know at first what it was. I thought it sounded like it was coming from the front of the house, so I started to run that way, I noticed zoey was locked up in s'mores kennel and Ken was not in the house, I started to connect that somehow Ken was involved with whatever made the loud noise. except I couldn't find Ken. I ran out the front door and looked but didnt see Ken or anything. So I went back in and out to the backyard. Ken had shot a rattlesnake in our backyard and had put the snake body on top of the trampolene, while he buried the head of it. I wasn't comfortable with the head buried in our yard, even with the cinder block he put over the spot, so I had him dig it back up and bury it out in the field. As he dug it up and put it on the shovel to carry it, we watched as the mouth of the snake was still biting. in the mean time as ken went and buried the head, I watched the snake body still writhing on the trampolene with the rattle still straight up in the air. gory sight. I picked the snake up and could feel it still moving in my hand and quickly put it in a trash barrel for Ken to take out and also bury in the field. I wish i would have gotten a picture of the whole snake. It was huge. It has 10 buttons as you can see on the rattle. was an older snake. The little girls (karen and cindy) slept through the whole thing. so we had a story to tell them when they woke up. I am so thankful my dogs didnt discover the snake before Ken. how it happened is: ken let the dogs out in the backyard to do their thing. This is always my job and it is rare for Ken to let them out and even rarer for him to go out in the yard with them. So the Lord was watching over us all this day. because otherwise it would have been me discovering the snake and things might not have turned out as well. ken also decided at that time to poop scoop (something he has never done) and that is what saved the dogs I believe because the rattlesnake was right by where I keep the pooper scooper. ken got the scooper just fine, scooped some and then was putting it back in its place when he heard the hiss/rattling sound. (thats how he described how it sounded, sorta like a hissing ) after discovering the snake, he immediately realized he had to get all the dogs out of there, so he herded them all into the house, having to bribe smore with food in order to get him to come in. then after locking zoey up, he went and got his .45 pistol and went back out to shoot the snake. he didnt realize smore had pushed open the screen door and was also out in the yard as he was focusing on the task at hand. luckily smore either stayed at the other end of the yard or maybe he was scared by the gun shot to the other end of the yard, but that is where I saw him when I came out. ken didnt even know he was out till that moment. well, this was quite an exciting way for me to be woken up! again I am so thankful the dogs and our family are all safe and that Ken knew exactely what to do!
