going through it again

Poor little Abby girl had to have a second surgery on her leg today. The first surgery was done in June. Abby was born with, I guess you can say a deformed knee. There was no groove in the bone to hold her knee cap in place. So consequently as months went by she would hold that leg up more and more. We didn't get anything done for it as soon as we should have, we did check with a couple vets but was quoted such high fee amounts and not very good information at the time. Later we started getting more aggressively trying to find a vet to help her as she was holding the leg up most of the time now. We found one that had helped a friend of ours chihuahuas, so we choose this one. We didn't realize though that Abby's problem was more involved than the average. In June the vet operated and made a groove for her knee. This he did fine, but he made a misjudgement on something else that he saw when he was in there operating. He saw that there was a misalignment of something (I think he said ligaments or tendons ) (I hope I can explain this accurately, I have forgotten the technical terms and stuff he said) but he made a judgement call to not fix it as he thought it was only slight and would not matter. Unfortunately he was wrong. 3 months after the surgery Abby still was holding that leg up just the same as before the surgery. So he called in a orthopedic dog specialist and she examined abby and said that with her leg being out of alignment, when Abby would extend her leg, the knee would still pop out. So today Abby had her second surgery. This time done by the specialist.(thankfully the cost was taken care of by the first vet) Abby is in a lot of pain right now. This specialist had to cut her bone, realign things and then insert 2 pins in Abbys leg which will be in there for life. Even with pain medication Abby has screamed out in pain when I picked her up. I have to pick her up and take her in and out for her to go potty. I am so so careful. The slightest movement seems to hurt her. I dread hearing that scream of pain again. If this operation doesn't work, I am just going to have a three legged dog because I don't want to ever put her through this pain again.
