accident and diagnosis

I have been having unexplained back pain for several weeks now on and off. I had gone to a doctor who could not find a cause, although he did not xray or anything. Also saw a chiroprater who didnt xray either and also didnt help me. I had started to feel better and even rode my bike. But that seems to have made the pain come back as my back was hurting again after. Well something happened today that forced me to go to the emergency room and in doing so I think I now know some of what is the problem with my back. Ok here is how it started, Cindy and I decided to go to garage sales today. At the first one we went to they had a exercise thingy. Stupid stupid me, I just had to get on it, cindy kept telling me not too. (I love exercise equipment and have bought and sold many of them, I sold 2 of them just yesterday) but I just had to sit on this thing anyway. It was like a bike sorta that you sit on and then pull the handle toward you and that motion pulls the seat up. well the thing happened to be defective, as I was pulling the bars and the seat was up high, it came apart with the seat falling and throwing me to the ground. It hurt my back so bad it brought me to tears. it also bruised my bottom. I wasnt able to get up on my own. The homeowner came over and helped me up. asking if I was alright. I told her it hurt really bad. She said "well, I have liabilty insurance if you find that you are injured" I thought that was really a good thing that she voluntered that and in front of several witnessess too, just in case. We left and I was really hurting. We came home but after a couple hours my back was hurting so bad I decided I should go and get an exray just to be sure I didnt injure it in some way more from the fall. The only doctors' office in this town was already closed at 11:30 a.m. so I had to go to the emergency room. At the hospital I explained the situation. got an exam and xray. The doctor said the xray showed I have a narrowing of the disc space between the vertibre of my lower back and also my spine is curving. he mentioned scolioses, but said he believes the curving is being caused by a pulling (I cant remember his exact words here) but think he meant muscles pulling the spine maybe. I wish he would have written it all down for me. I ask him too, and he said he would but didnt. He gave me a steriod shot to help with inflamation and pain. also a muscle relaxer plus some anti-inflamatory pills. He also wants me to go to physical therapy for it. I am to make an appointment for 2 weeks, if I am not better he wants to do an MRI as this will show the muscles and other things and xray doesnt. I really want to get an MRI sooner than that as I have suffered with this already for several weeks. I want to know if more is going on. But for now I am taking the medicine. Next week maybe if things arent improving I may push to get that MRI done.

The new girl at work, Shamie, has a rod in her back because of scolioses. I am sorry that your back is hurt, and hope that you don't have scolioses, but at least now we know a little more of what it is and can move forward in fixing it, we can be glad of that :)

That sounds painful! I hope the doctors can figure out what needs to be done and get it all fixed. Having back pain pretty much can disable everything in your life. At least it did for me a couple years ago.
